The internet and other addictions
The first unit deals with the internet and other addictions. In this unit we see a student from the University of Maryland who uses the Internet for more than eight hours each day, or 60 hours a week. He wants to know if he is an internet addict, he always wants to be online by downloading music, googling, blogging, checking faceboom, etc ...
I was researching on the internet and here I have some definitions and causes of Internet addiction and who are the most vulnerable.
Internet addiction and technologies
We tell you how we
can identify if our children, friends or ourselves are hooked to the network,
mobile phone or new technologies and how we can prevent Internet addiction.
Causes of addiction to technologies
The new
technologies represent for the adolescent a chance to get lost in a fantasy
world to escape from the daily routine. In this way, a paradox occurs: through
social networks and the Internet, adolescents do not show themselves as they
really are, but show an artificial image of themselves (which shows low
self-esteem).
The physical and
psychological changes that are experienced in adolescence make the young person
more emotionally vulnerable. For this reason, the adolescent can search at
certain moments for the security that he lacks within himself in technologies.
The family
environment also influences the habits a child acquires. There are parents who
forget that television is not a harmless nanny who takes care of children, but
an entertainment that has to be punctual and controlled by an adult.
Also in this unit we saw the uses of wish. When we use wish we are speaking about what we want or desire, but we know that it is unrealistic or impossible. When we use wish in the past, we are expressing regret.
Here i have some
examples;
I wish I had a car. But I do not have one and
do not expect to have one any time soon.
She wishes it was
not raining. It's raining and there is nothing she can do about it.
